This Week at Our Lady of Sorrows

This Week’s Theme:  “Salvation”

As you continue on your Lenten journey, remember that the gift of your salvation from death means eternal life with God.  Remember especially, that you were saved for a purpose, to share the love and mission of God throughout the world. - Sharon Williams, Coordinator of Stewardship

The Three Pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving—This Week:

Prayer: A Prayer for Salvation

Precious Blood and Word of God, You are my eternal salvation. Lost in sin, You liberated me. You lifted me from perdition. Treasuring my feeble soul, You excused my constant frailties. Forever, I am indebted to You. Your cost can never be repaid, For You bought my freedom with Blood. I will always seek You out my Lord, You are my beloved Deliverer! You are the Lamb of God!

Fasting: Here are some Rice Bowl Recipes for your family to try.  Then you can give the money you save on the meals for the Rice Bowl initiative.

Almsgiving: We have a special collection this week to help us spread the mission and love of God throughout the world.  Please have a generous and loving heart for this collection for Catholic Relief Services which helps with the work of the USCCB Offices of International Justice and Peace, Migration and Refugee Services, and Pastoral Care for Migrants and Refugees, relief work of the Holy Father, and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network. High school youth ministry: Three Days in the Tomb” March 11

You are invited to join us on March 11 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. to watch the great video, “Three Days in the Tomb.”  Christ’s Resurrection was either the greatest event in
human history – or a hoax.  As Catholics, we believe it was a miracle – and we’ve got the evidence to back it up!  Say what, you say?  Come and be uplifted by an awesome God whose mercy is overflowing, and learn how to defend what we believe and maybe, just maybe, get your mind blown a little bit!  Bring $1 for the Dues Can.  Friends are always welcome and they don’t have to be Catholic!

Join Fr. Mario Amore and Fr. Paul Graney at Cowley & Sons Gastropub on Thursday, March 15, as they talk about how to share your Catholic faith without being a jerk! The event begins at 8 p.m. Cowley’s is located at 33338 Grand River Ave., Farmington. For more information contact Mike Chamberland at (248) 474-5720.

Parishioner honored for wwii service in Europe

Congratulations to OLS Parishioner Edward Good, a World War II veteran, who is being
honored by The Scions of the 17th Airborne. He will travel in March to the site in Germany where he parachuted into Nazi lines in March 1945, 73 years ago. As a soldier in the 17th Airborne
Division, Good participated in Operation Varsity, the largest airborne operation in history to be conducted on one day and in one place. They secured bridges and towns within Germany, clearing the way for advancing allied troops who continued the liberation of northern Germany. Good will also travel to Belgium, where he will visit the site of the Battle of the Bulge and participate in the annual Dead Man’s Ridge Walk honoring the men of the 17th Airborne Division.  Each year, The Scions of the 17th Airborne select veterans to make the journey to the old battlefields where they helped defeat fascism in western Europe.

Please see our weekly bulletin for more information on these and upcoming events.
