What is it?
It is an opportunity for children ages 4 through Grade 3 to hear the Sunday Mass readings at their level of understanding. A catechist will proclaim the readings from the Children's Lectionary and then lead the children in a discussion of what they have heard.
When and Where does it take place?
The children are invited to approach the altar for a blessing at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word and then proceed to the lower level of the church. After the session (about 20 minutes), they rejoin their families in the assembly.
How can you become a catechist?
Catechists for the Liturgy of the Word are trained through the Adult Formation office and then given support and materials for their ministry. The schedule is set by the catechists themselves according to their availability.
